Evergreen content stays relevant whenever someone reads it—nothing in it is tied to a specific date or deadline.
Every Email Sequence works this way by default: subscribers can join at any time, and each one receives your emails in the same order, starting from when they join. An evergreen Email Sequence goes one step further—subscribers added through a Visual Automation stay in it after they finish, so they also receive any emails you add later.
Say you've created an Email Sequence with five published emails. You want to add more, but you're not ready to write them yet.
Without the evergreen setting, subscribers added through a Visual Automation get marked as "Completed" once they receive your last published email. They exit the Email Sequence and won't get anything you add in the future. Turning the Email Sequence evergreen keeps them in it.
NOTE: Evergreen Email Sequences are available on paid plans.
How to set up an evergreen Email Sequence
Go to Send > Email Sequences from the top navigation bar.
Then choose an existing Email Sequence or create a new one.
Once you're in the Email Sequence editor, click Settings in the top right corner.
Below Email Sequence Behavior on the right side of the page, you'll see Should subscribers added via Visual Automations stay in the email sequence?
What these options mean:
Yes keeps subscribers added through a Visual Automation active in the Email Sequence, so they receive any emails you add to it later.
No means those subscribers won't receive any new emails you add to the Email Sequence in the future.
Click Update Email Sequence in the bottom right corner to save your changes.
From here, you can add new emails to the Email Sequence whenever they're ready, and everyone in it will receive them.
Frequently asked questions
Who will get new emails I add to the Email Sequence?
Every subscriber in the evergreen Email Sequence, including the ones who received your earlier emails before you added the new one.
What if I'm not using a Visual Automation?
Subscribers added through a Rule or a Bulk Action stay active in the Email Sequence automatically, even after they've received all of its emails.
Why are my subscribers not moving to the next step in my Visual Automation?
With the evergreen setting turned on, subscribers stay active in the Email Sequence, so they won't progress past the Email Sequence step to any later steps in your Visual Automation.
To move them forward, turn the evergreen setting off.
Can I sell an evergreen product too?
Yes. An evergreen product stays available to buy at any time, with no cart-close date. See how to use Kit to sell digital products for the setup.
