NOTE: This article applies to classic email templates and not starting point templates.

If you're using a starting point template, you can add your default content anywhere in the template using the visual email template editor. Your default content will appear when you create a new Broadcast or Sequence with your starting point template.

Add boilerplate content, or default content, to classic email templates.

Then, when you create a Broadcast or Sequence using your template, your email will start with the default content you've set. From there, you can tweak any text, images, and links to fit the email's body.

By doing this, you can write your emails more quickly. You won't have to write the default content from scratch or copy it from a previous email.

When to use default content

Default content is perfect if you use regularly certain fixed content or formatting for your emails.

For example, if you run a weekly newsletter, you can add your newsletter headings as default content in your email template.

Using your default content

With your default content set up, here's how to use it in your emails.

1. Use your classic email template

In the email editor, set up your email with the classic email template containing your default content.

If you're creating a Broadcast, you can change its template to your classic email template using the Template setting in the Broadcast editor's right sidebar.

If you're creating a new Sequence, select your classic email template when you're asked to choose a default template for it:

This template will apply to all emails in the Sequence by default.

To use your classic template for only specific emails in your Sequence, select the first of these emails in the Emails tab of the Sequence editor's right sidebar.

Then, click the Styles tab to use the email's Template setting to change the email's template.

Repeat this process for all the Sequence emails for which you want to use your classic template.

2. Add your email content

You should now see your default content in your email body. From there, you can add your email content around the default content:

Writing your email should feel a lot quicker.

NOTE: Changing a template's default content won’t affect the content of any existing email drafts using that template. It affects only new email drafts you create moving forward.
