Send subscribers through a Visual Automation over and over again
Once a subscriber reaches the end of a Visual Automation, they exit it and will usually not go through it again unless they are re-added to it.
You can have this re-adding process happen automatically by setting up your Visual Automation like this:
Start the Visual Automation when a subscriber is added to a certain Tag
Remove that Tag from the subscriber when they've completed the Visual Automation
Delay the restart of the Visual Automation according to your preferred duration
Re-add that Tag to the subscriber, which will cause them to restart the Visual Automation from the top
This looping Visual Automation is helpful in situations where you want to repeatedly send subscribers the same emails. For example, this could be a weekly check-in email, or your course pitch emails until the subscriber buys your course.
Here's how to set it up:
1. Add subscribers to a trigger Tag
Add the Is added to a Tag entry point to your Visual Automation.
Select the Tag that should trigger the Visual Automation when a subscriber is added to it.
NOTE: Ideally, this Tag should be used only for triggering your looping Visual Automation and nothing else.
That's because subscribers will be sent through this Visual Automation the moment they're added to this Tag, even if you intended to add them to the Tag for a different purpose.
2. Subscribers go through the Visual Automation
Now, set up the Visual Automation with the Events, Actions, or Conditions that subscribers should go through.
For example, this could be an Action that adds your subscribers to a Sequence of emails.
NOTE: If you're adding your subscribers to a Sequence, set up the Sequence's Sequence schedule and Send Days with the days and times you want subscribers to receive the Sequence's emails.
Otherwise, your subscribers may immediately receive these emails when the Visual Automation restarts.
3. Remove the trigger Tag
Next, add the Add or remove tag Action and set it up to remove the trigger Tag from your subscribers.
This way, you can re-add the same Tag to your subscribers and have them go through the Visual Automation again.
4. Add a delay
The next step is to delay the restarting of the Visual Automation until the time it's supposed to restart (e.g., one week later).
To do so, add the Delay Action to the Visual Automation and set it up with your preferred delay duration.
If you don't need to delay your Visual Automation, you can skip the adding of this Action.
NOTE: Account for the Sequence schedule and Send Days for any Sequences in your Visual Automation when setting your delay duration (and vice versa).
For example, if you've set your delay duration to one week and your first Sequence email to be sent seven days after the last email, that Sequence email may end up being sent 14 days (i.e., two weeks) after your Visual Automation restarts.
If you intend for subscribers to receive your Sequence every week instead, then set your first Sequence email to be sent immediately and your delay duration to one week.
5. Add subscribers to the trigger Tag again
Finally, add the Add or remove tag Action and set it up to re-add the trigger Tag to your subscribers!
Since this is the Tag that kick-starts your Visual Automation, your subscribers will immediately restart the Visual Automation after they're re-added to the Tag.
Here's how our full Visual Automation looks:
Your Visual Automation may have different steps in the middle, which is fine! What's important is that your Visual Automation is set up to:
Start running when your subscribers are added to a certain Tag
Remove this Tag at the end
Re-add this Tag to your subscribers after that
Click the Live button at the top of the Visual Automation builder to turn your Visual Automation on when you're done.
Using your looping Visual Automation
To start looping subscribers through your Visual Automation, simply add your trigger Tag to them. Here are some ways of doing so:
Use a Bulk Action from the Subscribers page
Set up a separate Visual Automation that adds them to the trigger Tag
When you add the trigger Tag to your subscribers, they'll enter your looping Visual Automation and continue to loop through it as long as you keep it turned on.
Removing subscribers from your looping Visual Automation
At the very end of your looping Visual Automation (i.e., even after the Action that re-adds the trigger Tag to your subscribers), you can add an Event that will cause subscribers to exit the looping Visual Automation when certain events happen.
These events could be:
The adding of the subscriber to a certain Tag after they click a Link Trigger
When the subscriber purchases a product
