FeedBurner is Google's RSS feed manager that many creators have relied upon to automatically send new content to their readers.
On April 14, 2021, Google announced that they’re making upcoming changes to FeedBurner. Starting in July 2021, they'll be removing some feed management features, including email subscriptions.
What does this mean if you use FeedBurner?
If you’ve been using FeedBurner to manage your email subscriptions, Google recommends that you migrate to a new email subscription service.
That’s where Kit comes in!
You can use Kit to automatically send your readers new content as soon as it’s published 🎉
Let's walk through how to do this.
NOTE: RSS automations are available only on paid plans.
How to migrate your FeedBurner email subscriptions to Kit
First, download your email subscribers from FeedBurner. Here's a screenshot of instructions straight from Google:
If you're using a screen reader and need that read aloud:
In FeedBurner, click Analyze, and select Subscribers.
Click FeedBurner Email Subscriptions, then click Manage Your Email Subscriber List.
Under View Subscriber Details, Click CSV (next to "Export").
Next, import your subscriber list into Kit .
Once you have your CSV file of subscribers from FeedBurner, you can import them as new subscribers into your Kit account.
You'll do this by going to Subscribers under the Grow tab in the navigation and clicking the Add Subscribers button, followed by the Import a CSV option.
Check out our detailed instructions on how to import subscribers here.
Finally, create an RSS automation with your FeedBurner URL.
Connecting your blog's RSS feed to Kit will allow your subscribers to be updated about your new posts!
You have the option of setting up a weekly digest containing your most recent posts with links back to your blog, instead of sending out an email for each and every post.
You can connect your blog's RSS feed by going to RSS under the Automate tab in the navigation. Follow the steps in this article to easily set that up.
Once you've completed those three steps, you're all done! Now your subscribers are all set up to receive your new content every time you hit publish 📩
