Though it may not seem like it, the unsubscribe link is one of the most important parts of your emails.
This is because you need one to comply with anti-spam laws!
By default, your Kit emails already include a simple unsubscribe link at the bottom that looks like this:
But what if you want to change your unsubscribe text's wording?
For example, you might want to translate the word unsubscribe into another language, or make it a little friendlier (e.g., ‘Not loving these emails anymore? Opt out here’).
Let’s walk through how to do this for:
NOTE: Your email template will state whether it is a starting point, classic, or HTML template on the Email Templates page in your Kit account, under its name.
For starting point and classic email templates
Head to the Email Templates page and find or create an email template you want to use.
Highlight the word 'Unsubscribe' at the bottom of your email template. Delete it, then type your custom unsubscribe text.
Here, we’re changing our unsubscribe text to the word 'Abmelden,' which means 'unsubscribe' in German:
Highlight your new unsubscribe text, then click the link icon in the toolbar at the top of the email editor.
Copy and paste the following unsubscribe URL shortcode into the URL area:
{{ unsubscribe_url }}
Finally, click the Apply button to add the shortcode to your custom unsubscribe text. You will see your custom unsubscribe text turn into a link.
Finally, hit the Save button at the top right of the visual template editor to save your changes.
For HTML email templates
Head to the Email Templates page and find or create an email template you want to use.
Scroll to the bottom of your HTML template and look for the text that says:
<a href="{{ unsubscribe_url }}">Unsubscribe</a>
Replace the word 'Unsubscribe' with the text of your choice:
Hit the Save button to save your changes.
Now, your unsubscribe link will look like this:
It's that easy!
