How to install and use the Circle app

Learn how to use the Circle app to sync your Circle members to Kit, and display Circle Events and Posts in your emails.

Updated over a week ago

Connect your Circle community and Kit newsletter

With the Circle app, syncing Circle community members and managing them in your Kit account becomes automatic and effortless. You can also easily add Circle Events and Posts to your emails—no copy and pasting needed.

NOTE: To install the Circle app on Kit, you need:

The Circle app also uses API requests within your Circle plan's allocation. Circle may impose additional charges if your API usage exceeds your plan's limits.

How to install the Circle app

Log in to your Circle account, and follow the instructions here to create a new Admin v2 API token.

Copy the API token to your clipboard.

Next, go to your Kit account, and click Automate > Apps in the top navigation to access the Kit App Store.

Look for the Circle app and click Install to go through the installation process.

Circle will request access to your Kit account. Use the dropdown menu to select the Kit account you want to connect with Circle. Then, click Grant access to Circle.

Paste in the API token you copied earlier into the field provided, and then click Install App to complete the installation.

Syncing your Circle members

When you install the Circle app, we'll automatically sync your Circle members to your Kit account. New Circle members will also be synced daily.

We'll then add Tags to the Kit subscribers synced from Circle:

  • "Circle Member" Tag: Added to all Kit subscribers synced from Circle

  • "Circle Member - [Space Name]" Tag: [Space Name] will be replaced by the name of the Space the Circle member is in. For example, a Circle member in the "Customers" Space will be tagged with "Circle Member - Customers" in Kit. Your Circle members can have multiple Tags with their Spaces' names in this way.

We'll also create these subscriber Custom Fields if they don't already exist:

  • Last Name: This Custom Field displays your Circle members' last names

  • Circle Profile: This Custom Field displays your Circle members' Circle profile URLs, which you can use to check their engagement on Circle

The creation of these Tags and Custom Fields will happen regardless of whether your Circle members were already in your Kit account before the sync.

The sync will also overwrite any existing data in the "Last Name" and "Circle Profile" Custom Fields.

The Circle app syncs member data daily. In other words, your Circle members' "Circle Member" Tags and Custom Fields will be automatically updated in Kit every 24 hours to reflect any changes to their relevant data in Circle.

Adding Circle content to your emails

After installing the Circle app, you can import your Circle Events and Posts into your Kit emails.

To do this, open your Broadcast or Sequence email draft in the email editor (or create a new email).

Move your cursor to the left of the part of the email where you want to add your Circle content.

Click the + button that appears to load the content block menu. Scroll down this menu and click the Circle Event or Post content block.

Alternatively, type "/circle," and then select whether to add an Event or Post content block.

Once you've added a Circle Event or Post content block, you'll see the search bar on the right to search for—and select—the specific content you want to display from your Circle community.

Your Circle content will be added to your email. Use the right sidebar's settings to customize the content's fonts, colors, and more.

NOTE: If you're adding a Circle Event content block, use the Event Time Zone dropdown menu to set your event's time zone in your email.

Keeping Circle content updated

The Circle content blocks will display the last-refreshed content you added to your email drafts.

If you make changes to your Circle content after adding it to your email drafts, you'll need to refresh your email's Circle content blocks to update them before sending your email. The content will not automatically update on its own.

Hover your cursor over the Circle content block that needs updating, and then click the Refresh icon that appears on the right.

NOTE: Refreshing your email drafts' Circle content blocks will not affect the Circle content in emails you've already sent.

Usage limits

Circle limits the number of admin API requests that all apps connected to your Circle account (except Zapier) can collectively use in a month. If you exceed your monthly request limit, Circle may impose overage charges.

In general:

  • Adding one Circle content block to your email (without changing any content block settings) uses two API requests

  • Changing one or more Circle content block settings within a one-minute timeframe uses one API request

The number of API requests needed for syncing your Circle members depends on factors like the number of members and Spaces you have. Use this spreadsheet to estimate this number of API requests.

The spreadsheet also provides estimated overage charges, which may differ if you have other apps making API requests to Circle.

Monitor your API usage from your Circle admin area's Overview page. Circle will notify your community admins via email when you reach 90% of your request limit within a billing cycle.
