Using a custom link tracking domain
A custom link tracking domain lets the tracked links in your Kit emails use your own subdomain (like click.yourdomain.com) instead of a Kit domain. Kit still tracks every click the same way; the only change is the web address your subscribers see when they hover over or tap a link.
Before you start
You need a Kit Pro plan. Custom link tracking domains are a Pro feature.
Your subdomain must start with
click. For example,click.yourdomain.com. Other prefixes likelinks.ortrack.won't validate. You need access to your domain's DNS settings. This is wherever you manage your domain, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or Squarespace.
Why use a custom link tracking domain?
Your links look like they come from you, which makes your emails feel more on-brand and more trustworthy.
Cohesive branding. Your sender name, sending domain, and links all match. Subscribers see your brand from the inbox all the way to the click.
More trust at the moment of the click. Many subscribers hover over or long-press a link before tapping it. Seeing a familiar domain instead of an unfamiliar one makes them more comfortable clicking.
A consistent signal to inbox providers. When your link domain matches your sending domain, your emails look more consistent to providers like Gmail and Yahoo.
Where to find it
Click your name in the top right of Kit, then go to Settings > Email and scroll to the Click Tracking Domain section.
How to set it up
Go to Settings > Email and find the Click Tracking Domain section.
Enter your subdomain, starting with
click.(for example,click.yourdomain.com), and save it.Kit shows you a CNAME record to add to your DNS:
Sign in to your DNS provider, create a new CNAME record, and paste in the Name and Value from Kit using the copy buttons. Some providers only want
clickin the Name or Host field, because they add your domain automatically.Back in Kit, click Validate. Once Kit verifies the record, the warning icon disappears and your tracked links start using your domain.
Troubleshooting
My domain says "DNS record not yet verified." DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to update. Wait a bit, then click Validate again.
It still won't validate. Check that:
The record type is CNAME, not A or TXT.
The Name doesn't repeat your domain (for example,
click.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com). If your provider adds the domain for you, enter onlyclick. The Value is exactly
proxy-ssl.kitcdn.com, with no extra spaces. There isn't another record already using the
clicksubdomain.
Can I use a different prefix, like links.? No. Your tracking subdomain must start with click.
How do I stop using my custom domain? Click Remove this domain. Your links go back to using Kit's default tracking domain.
