With Kit Ads, you can add performance ads to your emails to earn extra revenue.
Performance ads contain copy and images pre-approved by their advertisers and are scheduled to run on certain dates. Just insert these ads into your emails, customize their look, and send your emails at the scheduled dates to serve the ads to your subscribers.
1. Set up and enable Kit Ads
If you haven't set up—and enabled—Kit Ads, you'll need to do this first.
We may take up to 48 business hours to approve your account for running ads.
2. Receive a performance campaign offer
If we secure a performance campaign that's a good fit for you, we'll email you an offer to serve the campaign's ads in your emails.
The email will contain details on the campaign's:
Payout: The amount you'll be paid for each unique verified ad click
Placements available: The maximum number of ads you can run under this performance campaign
Campaign window: The date (in Mountain Time) by which you must run the performance ad(s) to get paid under this campaign
To accept the offer, click the email's View Offer Details button.
3. Schedule your ad serve dates
You'll be directed to a Schedule Performance Ad screen in your Kit account. Add the date(s) on which you want to serve the performance ad(s).
These dates should be dates on which you have emails going out to your subscribers. Otherwise, your subscribers won't see your performance ads.
The number of dates you can select depends on the number of available placements.
Click Schedule when you're done.
NOTE: Ad serve dates cannot be changed once selected.
4. Add an Ad Slot to your email
Open the email draft in which you want to serve a performance ad.
Hover your cursor over the left side of the part of the email where you want to add an ad. Click the + icon that appears to display the content block menu, and then select Ad.
An Ad Slot will be added to your email.
NOTE: If you can't find the Ad option in the content block menu, this could be because:
You haven't set up your account for Kit Ads. Follow the steps here to do so.
You've set up your account for Kit Ads, but we haven't approved your account yet. We may take up to 48 business hours to approve your account after you've set it up. If it's taking longer than that, reach out to our support team for help.
5. Optional: Preview and customize the ad
You can optionally preview the performance ad and customize it before you send your email.
To do this, toggle the Preview option in the right sidebar to Native.
Placeholder ad copy will appear in the Ad Slot.
If you'd like, you can use the Choose a campaign dropdown menu to preview an actual performance ad from the campaign.
Then, while previewing either the placeholder or actual ad copy, click the ad's components—like its header, description, and button—to customize their look in the right sidebar.
6. Schedule your email
Schedule your email to send on a date that matches your ad serve date.
If your email goes out on a day for which you don't have a performance ad scheduled, the Ad Slot:
Will serve a programmatic ad to your subscribers if you've enabled programmatic ads
Will not show an ad to your subscribers if you've disabled programmatic ads
NOTE: We recommend adding Ad Slots to your emails and enabling programmatic ads even if you don't have active performance campaign offers. This way, your emails will serve programmatic ads to your subscribers and earn you ad revenue nevertheless.
6. Get paid
As you serve performance ads to your subscribers, you'll receive ad payouts and receipts within the 15th business day of the following month.
Can't view your ad?
Kit Ads is currently served to only U.S.-based subscribers. If you aren't based in the U.S., you will not see an ad in your email even if you've added an Ad Slot.
How to disable performance ads
If you change your mind about serving performance ads, send your emails on days on which you don't have any performance ads scheduled.
Alternatively, remove your email draft's Ad Slot. Doing this will prevent all ads (whether they're performance ads or programmatic ads) from appearing in your emails when they're sent.
However, any performance ads in emails you've already sent will still be visible and you'll be able to earn ad revenue from them.
To remove an Ad Slot, hover over it, and then click the trash can icon on the right to delete it.
