Broadcasts are one-off, non-automated emails you send to subscribers.
Apart from being sent as emails, Broadcasts can also be published as standalone online posts.
In this guide, we’ll go through how you can create, send, and publish Broadcasts like a pro.
Creating your Broadcast
To create a new Broadcast, click Broadcasts under the Send tab in the top navigation, followed by + New Broadcast.
You'll then see the Draft page of the Broadcast editor:
This is where you'll write and design your Broadcast. Let's go through each section.
Profile icon indicators
The profile icons of the team members currently actively editing the Broadcast will appear at the top-right corner, next to the Draft page indicator.
Subject line
Fill out the subject line of your Broadcast here.
Try to come up with something that will entice your subscribers to open your email. You can use emojis in the subject line, too. 😃
If you need subject line inspiration, write your email first, and then click the sparkle icon to get AI-generated subject lines based on your email's contents.
A/B testing of your subject lines is also possible—click the flask icon to set this up.
Preview text
Click + Add preview text to add preview text to your emails.
This text gives your subscribers a sneak peek of what your Broadcast is about (especially if they’re reading it through their email notifications).
Email editor
This is where you'll fill out your Broadcast's contents. We have a three-part guide to using the email editor here if you're new to it.
Otherwise, feel free to type away and add content to your email! We'll auto-save your work whenever you stop making changes. ✌️
If you're on a paid plan, we'll also regularly save versions of your Broadcast, which you can view and revert to from its Version History. Learn more in our article on version history.
NOTE: If you're on the Creator plan and a team member is currently editing the Broadcast, the Broadcast will be locked to prevent further edits by anyone else. But you have the option of taking over editing.
In contrast, if you're on the Creator Pro plan, you and your team members can work on the Broadcast simultaneously.

Your email's exact look will depend on its email template. For example, this is how the email looks with the Coach template enabled:
And this is how it looks with the Intro template enabled:
The sidebar
The sidebar lets you:
Customize your email template
You will see your Broadcast's current email template. Click the Browse templates button in the sidebar's Email tab to select the template you want to use for your Broadcast.
Click anywhere in your template to customize its colors, fonts, and more. Watch how the settings in the sidebar change as we click different parts of the template:
Change your email's background color
Use the Background color setting in the sidebar's Email tab to change your email's background color. This setting will appear only if you use a starting point template.
Run an A/B test
You can run A/B tests for your subject lines and email content (but not both at once). To do this, click the flask icon next to the subject line:
You'll then see the A/B test options:
Learn more about running A/B email content tests, which is available only on the Creator Pro plan.
Previewing your Broadcast
Click the Preview email button on the toolbar to preview how your Broadcast will look when it’s sent out. You can preview it either on desktop or mobile.
You can also preview it as a certain subscriber or send a test email to your (or someone else’s) inbox.
When you’re happy with your Broadcast's look, click the Continue → button at the bottom of the Broadcast editor.
You'll be directed to the Publish page:
You can use the Preview button at the bottom to preview your Broadcast again before sending it.
Publishing your Broadcast
Choose how to deliver your content
You can choose how you'd like to publish your Broadcast—send email, publish to web, or both.
Select the appropriate option(s) to reveal more settings.
Send email
Subject line
Your Broadcast's subject line will appear here.
If you've set up an A/B test for your subject lines, you'll see your subject line variants and test duration:
A/B content test settings
If you've set up an A/B content test, you'll see the test's goal and duration:
From address
Choose the email address your Broadcast should be sent from (especially if you have multiple email addresses set up).
Broadcast recipients
Next, set your Broadcast recipients.
The default setting for this is “All Subscribers,” which will send the Broadcast to all confirmed subscribers in your email list.
However, you can use the filters to send your Broadcast to only certain categories of subscribers.
For example, here’s how to send your Broadcast to only subscribers who have a certain Tag:
Check out our other tutorial to learn more about using Broadcast filters.
Send date and time
After you’ve selected which subscribers should receive your Broadcast, set your Broadcast’s send date and time.
To send the Broadcast immediately, leave this setting as Sending now. To schedule your Broadcast to be sent later instead, click the pencil icon to set up your send date and time.
Internal note
Click Advanced options to set up an optional internal note for your Broadcast. This is a note or description of your Broadcast for yourself, which your subscribers won't see.
Publish to web
Set up your Broadcast as a newsletter post
Publishing your Broadcast to the web makes it available as a standalone page that people—even those not subscribed to your email list—can visit and read. These published Broadcasts will appear in a newsletter feed on your Creator Profile and Landing Pages.
You'll need to add a thumbnail to the Broadcast for your newsletter feed, and alt text to help people using screen readers understand your image.
You also have options for:
Including the post in a category: Select one or more categories to group your post under. These categories will appear in your Creator Profile. To create a new category, type its name into the dropdown menu. Click Save to save your changes.
Making the post available only to paid subscribers
Setting the post as your Creator Profile's featured post
Customize your post's SEO settings
Under SEO settings, you'll be able to edit the post's:
Post title, which is a title for your post. It can differ from your subject line.
Post URL, which is the last part of the URL that points to your post. For example,
accountdomain.kit.com/profile/your-url-slug-goes-here.Meta description, which is a description of your post that can appear when search engines display your post on the search results, and when you share your post on social media.
Happy with your settings? Then, hit the Continue → button at the bottom.
When you do so, you will get one last chance to review your settings.
The confirmation button will say Send email, Send email & publish post, Schedule email, Schedule email & post, or Publish post depending on whether you've set your Broadcast to send immediately or scheduled it for later, and/or set it to be published to the web. Click the confirmation button to proceed with your Broadcast's send and/or publication.
A "Congrats" window will pop up, with suggested copy and buttons for sharing about your upcoming email or post on various social media platforms.
Save your Broadcast as a reusable template
Stop rebuilding the same email designs from scratch. When you've created a Broadcast you love (whether it's still a draft or already sent), save it as a template so you can reuse the layout for future emails.
How to save a Broadcast as a template
While writing your Broadcast:
Choose Save template under the Template setting in the right sidebar
Either create a new template by giving it a custom name, or update the template your Broadcast is already using
Click Save template
Your template is now ready to use the next time you want to create an email.
You can save updated starting point templates, classic templates, and templates for A/B test variants as new templates.
Key takeaways
Use Broadcasts to send one-off emails to your subscribers.
Write your Broadcast and choose whether to send it as an email and/or publish it to the web.
If you publish your Broadcast to the web, you can restrict its access to paid subscribers and/or make it your Creator Profile's featured post.
