The Kit Notion app mirrors your subscriber list to a Notion database. Choose which tags and custom fields to include, and keep everything synced automatically.
⚠️ NOTE: The database sync is a one-way sync. In other words, data flows from Kit to Notion only. Editing the Notion database does not change subscribers in Kit.
Getting started with Notion
To use the Kit Notion app, you need to:
Have an active Notion account
Have a paid Kit account
How to install the Notion app
Log in to your Kit account
Click Automate > Apps in the top navigation
Find the Notion app and click Install
Sign in with Notion and approve the requested permissions
You’ll first land on the Sync Preferences page to select what subscribers you want to import, then the Database preferences screen to choose which tags and custom fields to include in your Notion database
You can also go directly to the Notion app listing to install the app.
How to use the Notion app
Choose your sync preferences (on install)
If you enable Ongoing sync, new or updated subscribers in Kit will create or update rows in the connected Notion database automatically. If you don't, the database will not receive ongoing updates from Kit.
Choose your database preferences (after sync preferences)
Kit will create a new database in your Notion workspace that mirrors your Kit subscriber list. You can select the name of the database during this first step.
Columns in your database will include core fields like Email and Name, and you can choose to add any additional custom fields or Tags in steps 2 and 3.
A "Status" property also indicates whether the subscriber is Active or Unsubscribed.
What data syncs to Notion
When you create or update a subscriber in Kit (with Ongoing sync enabled), Kit will:
Create or update a row in the Notion database
Update the "Status" property to reflect Active v.s. Unsubscribed
Sync core fields and any selected Tags and custom fields
Core fields
Email
Name (first name if available, or full name)
Optional fields you can include
Custom fields you select during setup
Tags you select during setup
⚠️ NOTE: Tags will update after the database is created. In other words, adding or removing a Tag in Kit will be reflected in the Notion database—but only for the Tags you chose on the Database preferences screen. Tags not selected there will not appear or update in Notion.
However, custom fields do not currently update after the database is created. If you change a custom field’s value in Kit, the corresponding Notion field will not reflect that change. We’re working on improving this behavior.
To avoid confusion, consider limiting included custom fields to those that change infrequently.
Notion troubleshooting
My Notion database didn’t appear after install
Confirm you completed the OAuth permission step in Notion
Try installing again and ensure a workspace is selected
Rows aren’t updating when I change subscribers in Kit
Make sure Ongoing sync is enabled in the Notion app’s preferences in Kit
Custom fields aren’t updating in Notion
This is a known limitation for the first release. Custom fields added to the database will not update after initial creation. We're working on improving this behavior.
Some tags are missing from Notion
Only tags selected during the Database preferences setup are synced. Reopen preferences to add the tags you need going forward.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an additional cost?
No, the app does not cost anything extra. You can install it if you are on a paid Kit plan.
Can I edit the Notion database to change subscribers in Kit?
No. The sync is one‑way from Kit to Notion. Editing rows in Notion will not update Kit.
Which properties are included by default?
Email and Name are always included. Tags and custom fields are optional and can be chosen during setup.
Can I change which Tags or custom fields are synced later?
Yes. Reopen the Database preferences screen in the Notion app settings to modify the selection for future syncs.
What happens when someone unsubscribes?
Kit updates the Notion row’s Status to Unsubscribed on the next sync.
