Create a product from a template and publish it, with your product page and checkout on one page.
The new product setup is a reworked way to create products, together with a new checkout that's designed to convert better.
Your product page and checkout are one page, so buyers can see your product and pay without leaving it.
The new product setup is designed to make it easier to start selling than the legacy setup. The checkout is more opinionated, with a focus on turning more visitors into buyers. That means there's no page editor. Instead, Kit builds your product page from its settings.
If you want more room to promote your product and explain its value, create a Landing Page that embeds your product.
Here's how to create a product with the new setup.
NOTE: The new setup is in beta. If you don't see it yet, you'll get access when it rolls out to everyone.
Users can still buy the products you created with the legacy setup, even if you create new ones with the new setup.
Create a product
Start a new product
Go to Products under Monetization in the navigation.
Click New product at the top right of the page. Then, choose New setup (Beta).
Choose a product template
On the What are you selling? screen, pick the product template that best matches your product's pricing structure and fulfillment method. The options are:
Product type | Pricing structure | Fulfillment method |
Digital download | One-time payment | The customer automatically receives a file to download |
Ebook | One-time payment | The customer automatically receives a file to download |
Email course | One-time payment | Create a Visual Automation that has a Tag entry point and sends a Sequence containing the email course material.
Then, manually add customers to the Tag to start delivering the course. |
1:1 call | One-time payment | The customer automatically receives a booking link |
Paid newsletter | Subscription | Manually add customers to a Tag to send your paid newsletter only to subscribers with that Tag. |
Community membership | Subscription | The customer automatically receives an access link |
Something else | You choose your own pricing method | You choose your own delivery method |
Once you've chosen a product template, a draft of your product is created.
The template is a starting point, not a limit. Whichever one you pick, you can still change the pricing method and fulfillment method any time before you publish.
Fill out your product settings
Your draft product will start with a placeholder name, pre-filled description, and default price. Change these as you see fit.
The settings page has these tabs at the top: Details, Pricing, Tax, Fulfillment, Sales pages, Discounts, and Order bumps. Click a tab to jump to that section.
As you make changes, the Preview on the right shows how your product page will look.
Details
In the Details section, fill out:
Name: A clear title for your product.
Description: An optional description of up to 500 characters, so customers know what they're getting.
Image: An image to show on the checkout page. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP file of up to 25 MB, or a GIF of up to 10 MB.
Domain and Path: Your product's direct link. Use your account's default domain or a custom domain if you've set one up.
Pricing
In the Pricing section, choose a Pricing method:
Single payment: Charge a one-time fee.
Subscription: Charge an ongoing fee.
Pay what you want: Customers set the price.
Then, choose your Currency and enter your Price. For a single payment, you can optionally:
Turn on Split payments into installments to spread the cost over multiple payments.
Turn on Quantity to let customers choose a quantity and buy multiples of your product.
NOTE: After publishing your product, you can change its price, but not its pricing method, currency, or installments. To change these, create a new product.
Tax
NOTE: The Tax section appears only if you've turned on tax collection for your account.
In the Tax section, select a Tax code and a Product type to keep tax calculations accurate.
Fulfillment
In the Fulfillment section, choose a Fulfillment method to decide how customers receive your product:
File: Customers get a file. Upload a file of up to 500 MB, and Kit sends it automatically after payment.
URL: Customers get a link to a hosted product.
Manual: You deliver the product yourself, for example by manually emailing customers to arrange a coaching session, or adding customers to a Tag that triggers a Visual Automation to start delivering course emails.
Sales pages
The Sales pages section lists the landing pages that link to this product. Landing pages with product blocks stay in sync with your product's setup.
You can create sales pages only after publishing your product. Click New sales page to create one.
Discounts
NOTE: The Discounts section doesn't appear for "Pay what you want" products.
In the Discounts section, click Add a discount code to offer customers a percentage or fixed amount off at checkout.
Buyers can use a discount code through a link that adds ?promo=CODE to your product page's URL, where CODE will be replaced with the code.
You can also optionally turn on Show a discount code field at checkout to display a discount code field. Buyers who have a discount code can type it into this field to apply the discount manually.
If they visit your product page using a URL ending in ?promo=CODE, the discount code is entered into the field automatically.
Order bumps
NOTE: The Order bumps section doesn't appear for subscriptions or products payable by installment payments.
In the Order bumps section, click Add an order bump to offer up to two related products on your checkout page, so customers can add them before paying.
Any discount you set for your order bumps applies to the current transaction only.
Preview your checkout page
Use the Preview sidebar on the right to check your product page as you edit it. To open a full-screen preview, click the eye icon at the top right of the Preview sidebar.
Use the desktop and mobile icons at the top of the full-screen preview to switch between desktop and mobile views, respectively. Click the X at the top right to close the full-screen preview.
Publish your product
At the top right of the product builder, you'll see two buttons:
Save draft keeps your product as an unpublished draft.
Publish makes your product live and available for purchase.
If you haven't set up Stripe yet, Publish saves your draft and shows a You're almost ready to get paid modal. Click Activate payouts to set up payments, then publish again.
Once your product is published, a Your product is published modal shows your product's URL, so you can copy and share it. The modal also shows recommended next steps, like adding a sales page or sending a launch email.
View your product page by clicking the ↗ icon at the top right of the product builder.
Edit or unpublish a product
To edit a published product, open it in the builder and make your edits. Then, click Save & publish so the changes go live.
To take your product page down, click Unpublish. Users can't buy unpublished products, but previous buyers keep access to what they've bought.
