WordPress: 404 error troubleshooting

Fix 404 errors on your WordPress site after installing the Kit plugin by completing the plugin connection and re-saving your permalinks.

If you see 404 errors across your WordPress site after installing the Kit WordPress plugin, there are two common causes: an incomplete plugin connection or outdated permalinks. Work through the fixes below in order.

Complete the plugin connection

For the plugin to know which Kit account is yours and pull the correct data into your site, it needs to be connected to your account.

  1. In your WordPress left sidebar, go to Settings > Kit and click Connect.

  2. Log in to your Kit account.

  3. When you see the message "WordPress is requesting access to your account," click Grant access to WordPress.

Refresh your site. The 404 errors should now be gone.

Re-save your permalinks

If the errors persist after connecting the plugin, your site's permalink structure may need a refresh.

  1. In your WordPress left sidebar, go to Settings > Permalinks.

  2. Without changing anything, click Save Changes. This rebuilds your site's URL rules and clears 404 errors caused by outdated permalinks.

Next steps

Once the errors are resolved, you can continue configuring the plugin to display Kit content on your site:
