Familiarize yourself with Kit's terminology
We refer to certain things differently from Drip. Here’s a quick overview of the similarities and differences in our terminology:
Definition / Feature | Drip terminology | Kit terminology |
Send a one-off email | Broadcast
Send an automated series of emails | Campaign
Trigger actions based on subscriber behaviour | Automations
Label subscribers with specific characteristics | Tags
Filter subscribers based on shared characteristics | Segment |
Take the time to get the hang of our terminology. You’ll use it a lot after you’ve switched to our platform!
Migrating from Drip to Kit: What happens to your subscriber data
When you move your subscribers from Drip to Kit, we handle all the details to make your transition smooth. Here's exactly what comes with your subscribers:
Custom fields
All the information you've collected about your subscribers moves with them. Every detail you've gathered—from survey responses to preferences—stays connected to the right subscriber.
Tags and accounts
We automatically create tags from:
Your account names (if you have multiple Drip accounts)
Any existing tags from Drip
This means your subscriber information arrives organized and ready for you to start creating.
Import your Subscribers with One Click
With the Drip importer, you can import all your tags and custom fields with one click!
To access the importer, open the 'Grow' menu in your Kit account, then click 'Subscribers.' Scroll down below the subscriber graph, then click 'Add Subscribers' → 'Import from another provider' → 'Drip.'
Enter your Drip API key, click to continue the import, and all of your Subscribers will be brought over, along with any existing tags they have. If there are multiple accounts, each account name will also become a tag.
Alternatively, you can also import your Drip contacts via a CSV file. Learn more about importing your Drip contacts into Kit here.
Importing automated Drip campaigns into Kit Sequences
In Drip, your automatic emails were called "campaigns." In Kit , we call them "Sequences." Switching those to Kit is simply a matter of copying and pasting the content from one to the other.
There are a few steps required in order to get your Drip campaigns transferred over to Sequences in your new account.
Converting Drip Workflows to Kit 's Visual Automations
To gain the best understanding of how visual automations work, we suggest reading this article. Essentially Kit automations will do everything that Drip's will do, with a few exceptions. Just re-map the different nodes of the workflow over to Kit and you'll be set!
Formatting
When you paste the email in to Kit , you may see some boxes around the content. This is a result of Drip's formatting differences. Since emails deliver and convert better when they look like emails, you may need to paste the content in section by section. But if it looks clean, it probably is!
Sequence timing
You'll set the email timing to "days since last email." You can even change days to hours for the initial messages or to automate that big launch!
Updating images
This is a big one. If you just straight copy-paste your images into Kit , they're actually still pointing to Drip. What you want to do instead is download the image to your computer, and then re-upload it directly to Kit . Images in Kit emails look best when they are no wider than 600 pixels (standard email width).
