You can easily send a Broadcast to just a single subscriber or a handful of subscribers.
Whether you have subscribers who missed out on a Broadcast or you simply want to contact a smaller group, here's how to do it!
TIP: If you're sending to more than a handful of subscribers at once, it might be quicker to add a Tag to them, and then send your Broadcast to subscribers who have that Tag (rather than adding their email addresses one by one as per this tutorial).
1. Navigate to the Broadcast's Publish page
From the top nav, click Send > Broadcasts. Click the Broadcast you want to share or make a new one.
Then, click the Publish option near the top right of the page to go to the Publish page.
After that, enable the Send email option to send your Broadcast.
You'll see something like this:
2. Remove any existing subscriber filters
Scroll to the "Who would you like to send this to?" setting of the page. This setting determines your Broadcast's recipients.
New Broadcasts have the "All Subscribers" filter and are set to send to all of your subscribers by default. Duplicated Broadcasts have the same filters as the original.
We'll be creating new filters for this tutorial.
To remove a filter, hover over it, then click the X:
3. Click Add Filter and select "Email Address" from the dropdown
By default, the Email Address filter is set to "Is Exactly," which means we'll send the Broadcast to only subscribers whose email address exactly match the email address stated in the filter.
This is the most straightforward option and will work for most use cases.
NOTE: You also have the option to select the "Contains" filter if you want to filter based on partial matches.
For example, set the filter to subscribers whose email addresses contain "@gmail" if you want to send your Broadcast to all your subscribers with Gmail addresses.
4. Enter your subscriber's email address
Fill out the Email Address filter with the email address of the subscriber you want to email. Then, click Add Filter.
Did you see how the number in the top right now indicates this Broadcast is set to send to only one subscriber? That's how you know you did it correctly!
This is because we chose "Is Exactly" for the filter, and there's only one subscriber on this account's email list whose email address matches the one entered.
5. [Optional] Add additional subscribers' email addresses
If you'd like to send this Broadcast to a few other subscribers, you can do that, too!
Start by changing the "Matching all of the following" setting above the filter to "Matching any of the following":
Then, click Add Filter again and add more subscriber email addresses by repeating steps 3 and 4 above.
When you're done, the filter will look something like this:
This example shows the Broadcast filtered to send to two subscribers, but you can send yours to as many subscribers as you like.
Again, the number on the top right will tell you how many subscribers you'll be sending your Broadcast to. Use it to verify if you've set up your email address filters correctly.
6. Send your Broadcast
⚠️ WAIT! ⚠️ If you haven't completed your Broadcast's content yet, click back to the Draft page and write it now!
Your filters will be autosaved. Proceed to this step only once your Broadcast is ready to go.
Click the Continue button at the bottom right of the page to send your Broadcast.
This button is located towards the bottom right of the page:
Sending a test Broadcast to yourself
Sometimes, you might want to send a "real" test Broadcast to yourself before sending it to your list.
While we do have a built-in preview feature, certain features like personalization and Link Triggers won't work in email previews. Sending yourself a "real" version of the Broadcast can sometimes be reassuring as a final check for any issues.
If you choose to run a test this way, follow this same tutorial and just filter your Broadcast to send to your email address.
If all looks good, duplicate the Broadcast you sent to yourself and adjust the duplicate's filters to include your greater list.
NOTE: Sending a test version of your Broadcast to yourself before sending it to the rest of your list will result in that Broadcast being listed twice on your Broadcasts page.
However, you'll be able to distinguish between the two by their stats and number of recipients. You can also add internal notes to record which Broadcast is the test version and the live version respectively.
