Save time by letting subscribers update their own profile
By adding an "Update your profile" link to your emails, your subscribers can quickly and easily update their own names and email addresses, as well as the billing information associated with any products they've purchased from you.
NOTE: The Update Profile page supports only the first name, last name, and email address fields at this time. The subscriber's last name will be shown only if that custom field has been created in your account first. Their billing information will appear only if they've purchased a product from you before.
How to add a subscriber preferences link
The easiest way to add a subscriber preferences link into any email or email template is to paste this shortcode into it: {{ subscriber_preferences_link }}
When the email is sent, that shortcode will automatically change to an "Update your profile" link unique to each subscriber.
NOTE: Since subscriber preferences links are generated at send time, they will not function in preview emails (you'll be shown a preview page instead). If you want to test your link in an "actual" Broadcast, send the Broadcast to just yourself as a test.
Customizing the link CTA
To customize the link text to something other than "Update your profile," you'll have to add it a little differently.
Type your link text as you would for any text link, and then enter {{ subscriber_preferences_url }}
as its URL, like this:
The shortcode will automatically turn into each subscriber's unique profile page link at send time.
NOTE: The two shortcodes above differ slightly. One contains "link," whereas the other contains "url.". Make sure you use the correct version based on how you're adding the subscriber preferences link. Otherwise, the link may not function properly.
Subscriber preferences and magic links
The process of updating subscriber preferences depends on whether the subscriber has purchased a product from you.
If they haven't purchased any products from you, they'll be taken directly to the subscriber preferences page after they click the subscriber preferences link.
If they have purchased a product from you, they'll go through an extra verification step. After clicking your email's subscriber preferences link, they'll be taken to a page that looks like this:
The subscriber will need to check their email and enter into the page the six-digit authentication code we sent them. Once they've correctly entered the code, they'll be granted access to the subscriber preferences page.
Why the magic link process?
If a subscriber has purchased a product from you in the past, the subscriber preferences page will display their billing information. To protect this data, we have this extra step to verify it's really them trying to access that page.
If the subscriber hasn't purchased a product from you, the subscriber preferences page won't show their billing information. So, the verification process isn't necessary.
Having trouble?
If your email's subscriber preferences link doesn't work, we'd recommend checking out this article, which goes over some common implementation issues.
If the subscriber can't find their authentication code email, ask them to check their spam folder or Promotions tab. If that's where the email ended up, we'd also suggest they mark it as "Not spam" and/or drag it into their inbox to avoid this from happening again in the future.
