In addition to managing up to 10,000 subscribers, you can start building automations to grow and nurture your list.
On the Newsletter Plan, you can create one Sequence and one basic Visual Automation. Let’s dive into how you can use these features to help you save time and grow your list.
Sequences: Automated emails
What are Sequences?
Sequences are a set or a series of automated emails. Within a Sequence, you’ll find:
Emails: There is no limit to how many emails you can have within a Sequence. It can be one email or hundreds of emails—this depends on the content you want to deliver.
Order of emails: Sequences are triggered in order. First, email 1 is sent, followed by email 2. No emails are skipped and every subscriber receives it in the same order.
Schedule: Emails are automatically triggered based on a time schedule.
For example, you can set it so no emails in the Sequence are sent over the weekend.
You can also set the time duration between each email.
So, when you add a subscriber to a Sequence, they’ll receive all the emails that are in the Sequence in order, starting from the first email.
Sequences are different from Broadcasts, which are one-off, non-automated emails that you send at a specific date and time.
How many Sequences do I have?
On the Newsletter Plan, you can create up to one Sequence. We highly recommend creating either of these Sequences to get you started:
Welcome Series: This is a Sequence to welcome new subscribers who have just joined your list. This is a great opportunity to send them a few emails to introduce yourself and gather some information about them that’ll help you understand your audience and keep your list engaged.
Evergreen Newsletter: If you already have content from your blog, YouTube channel, or social media accounts, you can make this Sequence to repurpose a lot of the content you’ve made in the past. This will not only help you save time, but also relieve the pressure of creating new content every day.
Here's an example of a short evergreen newsletter Sequence (with a welcome email at the start):
How do I add or remove subscribers from my Sequence?
You can add and remove subscribers from a Sequence through your Subscribers page under the Grow tab in the top navigation. Then, follow these steps:
Select the subscriber(s) you want to add to your Sequence
Click Bulk Actions to access the drop-down menu
Select Add to Sequence
A window will pop up for you to select the Sequence that your subscribers should be added to.
Click Save
Your subscribers will start to receive the emails in the Sequence in order.
Similarly, to remove subscribers from a Sequence, you’d follow the same steps and choose Remove from Sequence in the Bulk Actions drop-down instead.
Can I automatically trigger my Sequence?
You can! You can create a basic Visual Automation to automatically add subscribers to your Sequence based on a specific entry point. This means you will not have to manually add subscribers to your Sequence each time.
Basic Visual Automations: Action-based funnel
What is a basic Visual Automation?
A Visual Automation is a series of steps that will automatically trigger for your subscribers when they meet specific criteria.
A basic Visual Automation is one that has access to only action-based steps and can trigger only one Sequence.
What are the triggers/steps in a basic Visual Automation?
There are entry nodes, which is how a subscriber will automatically enter the automation.
Here are the different types of entry nodes:
When a subscriber joins a Form
When a subscriber is added to a Tag
When a subscriber’s custom field changes
When a subscriber purchases a Commerce product
There are also action-based steps, which are steps where a specific action happens to the subscriber.
Here are the different types of action-based steps:
Add subscriber to a Sequence
Add a Tag to a subscriber
Remove a Tag from a subscriber
Set a custom field for a subscriber
Delay them from moving forward in the automation
What types of basic Visual Automation can I create?
We recommend creating a basic Visual Automation to automatically send a Sequence to your subscribers. Either one of these automations will help you save time:
Welcome Automation: The steps in this automation would include:
Joins any Form
Add subscriber to your Welcome Sequence
Tag the subscriber as “Nurtured”
Newsletter Automation
Joins any form
Delay 1 day
Tag the subscriber as “Newsletter subscriber”
Add subscriber to your Newsletter Sequence
Here's how the basic newsletter automation could look:
