Switching from Drip to Kit

There are several steps needed in order to bring your Subscribers from Drip to Kit . This guide will get you there!

Meet Jason, resident Expert in complete migrations from Drip to Kit . If you are feeling overwhelmed, or would rather spend your time creating, give him the reigns. He'll get it done with flying colors!

Import your Subscribers with One Click

With the Drip importer, you can import all your tags and custom fields with one click!

To access the importer, open the 'Grow' menu in your Kit account, then click 'Subscribers.' Scroll down below the subscriber graph, then click 'Add Subscribers' β†’ 'Import from another provider' β†’ 'Drip.'

Enter your Drip API key, click to continue the import, and all of your Subscribers will be brought over!

Optional: Import Your Subscribers Manually

If you need to (or want to) import Subscribers manually, follow these instructions.

1. Export your subscribers from Drip

Drip has a guide here on how to do this.

2. Import that CSV into Kit

We have a guide here on how to import a CSV into Kit that includes the subscribers' tags.

☝️ Importing custom fields?

By default, Kit only imports First Name and Email Address. If you want to import additional fields from Drip, and are opting to import manually versus using our Drip importer, you'll need to set up those fields in Kit before import. Here's how:

  1. If you don't have any Subscribers yet, add yourself by clicking the + button and entering your information.

  2. Now click on your subscription profile.

  3. Click on "+ Add a new field" link below the default field.

  4. Name and add as many fields as needed!

  5. Refer to this tutorial for how to map those custom fields when importing your CSV from Drip into Kit

Importing automated Drip campaigns into Kit Sequences

In Drip, your automatic emails were called "campaigns." In Kit , we call them "Sequences." Switching those to Kit is simply a matter of copying and pasting the content from one to the other.

There are a few steps required in order to get your Drip campaigns transferred over to Sequences in your new account.

Converting Drip Workflows to Kit 's Visual Automations

To gain the best understanding of how visual automations work, we suggest reading this article. Essentially Kit automations will do everything that Drip's will do, with a few exceptions. Just re-map the different nodes of the workflow over to Kit and you'll be set!

Formatting

When you paste the email in to Kit , you may see some boxes around the content. This is a result of Drip's formatting differences. Since emails deliver and convert better when they look like emails, you may need to paste the content in section by section. But if it looks clean, it probably is!

Sequence timing

You'll set the email timing to "days since last email." You can even change days to hours for the initial messages or to automate that big launch!

Updating images

This is a big one. If you just straight copy-paste your images into Kit , they're actually still pointing to Drip. What you want to do instead is download the image to your computer, and then re-upload it directly to Kit . Images in Kit emails look best when they are no wider than 600 pixels (standard email width).
