Effortlessly reuse sections of content across your emails
Content snippets take the hassle out of copy/pasting content into multiple emails and editing them all separately when you need to update them.
Save your content as a snippet and add the snippet to your emails. When you update your snippet's contents, your changes will be automatically reflected in all emails containing the snippet too! ✨
There are two types of snippets you can create in Kit: block snippets and inline snippets.
Here's a rundown of each snippet type, how to create them, and how you can use them after that:
NOTE: Adding content snippets to incentive emails is not possible at this time.
Creating a block snippet
Block snippets are snippets that contain formatted content blocks such as text, lists, images, personalization, and buttons. (Basically, all the content block options available when you open the email editor's content block menu.)
To create a new block snippet, go to Snippets under the Send tab in the navigation:
Click the + New Snippet button and select the Blocks option.
NOTE: You can also create a new block snippet by selecting Snippet from the email editor's content block menu.
Give your block snippet a name. This name should be something you'll recognize as it is for your own reference.
Next, flesh out your snippet's contents!
Hover your mouse over the left of the snippet editor to reveal a plus (+) sign button. Click it to launch the content block menu, then select the content blocks you want to insert into the snippet.
Customize these content blocks, then click Save to save your snippet when you're ready to use it.
Creating an inline snippet
Inline snippets are snippets that help you create variables for adding to your email. These variables are like packages of data whose contents can change based on the information provided to them.
For example, you can have an inline snippet that appends the phrase "Fellow Creator" before your subscribers' first names. Your emails will then display "Fellow Creator (subscriber's first name)" wherever you add this inline snippet in them.
To create a new inline snippet, go to Snippets under the Send tab in the navigation:
Click the + New Snippet button and select the Inline option.
NOTE: You can also create a new inline snippet by selecting Snippet from the email editor's content block menu.
Give your inline snippet a name. This name should be something you'll recognize as it is for your own reference.
Next, fill out your inline snippet text.
Click the + Personalization option to insert personalization Liquid shortcodes that customize your emails' content based on your subscribers' characteristics.
The personalization options are:
First name: Inserts a Liquid shortcode for the subscriber's first name.
Email address: Inserts a Liquid shortcode subscriber's email address.
If / Else: Inserts a Liquid shortcode that displays certain text if a certain condition is met. If the condition is not met, the shortcode displays certain other text instead.
If property contains: Inserts a Liquid shortcode that checks whether the subscriber has a certain tag. If the tag is present, the shortcode displays certain text accordingly.
Unless: Inserts a Liquid shortcode that displays certain text unless the subscriber has a certain tag.
For example, the inline snippet below creates a variable called "Fancy first name" for displaying the text "Fellow Creator (subscriber's first name)".
You can also add custom HTML and CSS to your inline snippet!
When your inline snippet is ready, click Save to save it.
Using your content snippets in your emails
Go to the email in which you want to use your snippet.
Hover your mouse over the left of the email editor until the plus (+) sign button appears. Click it to launch the content block menu, then select Snippet.
In the Add a snippet window that pops up, select the block or inline snippet you want to add.
This is what adding a snippet to a Broadcast looks like:
(To view the exact contents of your inline snippets, preview your email or send yourself a test email. Learn how to preview your Broadcast here and how to preview your Sequence emails here.)
Editing your content snippets
To edit a snippet, click it on your email or the Snippets page.
The snippet editor will launch. Make your edits, then click Save.
Here's how to edit a content snippet from a Broadcast, for example:
Your snippet will reflect the edits automatically in all places you've used it!
NOTE: Changes you make to your snippets will apply to only emails you send going forward. Emails you've already sent will not be affected.
Archiving your content snippets
If you no longer need a content snippet, you can archive it.
Go to the Snippets page and click the three dots at the top right of your snippet, followed by Archive.
You can always restore your archived snippets by clicking the Archive icon on the Snippets page.
Use case ideas for content snippets
Here are some ideas on putting content snippets to use:
Including a call to action for your latest offering (blog post, course, product, etc.)
Update the offering mentioned in the snippet whenever you launch something new!
Displaying customer testimonials across multiple emails
The possibilities are virtually endless! Any common content "blurbs" you use are now able to live dynamically as content snippets for easy access and updating.
