How to target engaged subscribers

Find your most engaged subscribers in Kit using engagement status, list cleaning, and Subscriber Scoring.

Your most engaged subscribers open your emails, click your links, and act on what you send. Targeting them directly improves your deliverability, gives you clearer insight into what resonates, and keeps your emails in front of the people who want them most.

There are three ways to find and target engaged subscribers in Kit.

Find engaged subscribers with the status filter

Kit tracks engagement for you. Cold subscribers are subscribers who haven't opened an email or clicked any email links in the last 90 days (or 30 days, if they've subscribed to your list for fewer than 90 days). Everyone else on your confirmed list is engaging with your content.

To separate the two, go to your Subscribers page and use the status dropdown menu to view your cold subscribers. Select them, then use a Bulk Action to add a Tag like "Cold subscribers." When you send your next Broadcast, exclude that Tag from your recipients—your email will only reach subscribers who are engaging with your emails.

Clean cold subscribers off your list

For a longer-term fix, remove cold subscribers entirely. A cleaned list means every Broadcast reaches engaged subscribers by default, and the stronger open and click rates help your emails land in inboxes instead of spam folders.

You can automate this with a free Visual Automation template:

Our guide to cleaning and managing your list walks you through the full setup, including a template that automatically cleans out new subscribers who never engage and a template for cleaning your entire list.

Go deeper with Subscriber Scoring

On Kit's Pro plan, Subscriber Scoring breaks down your list's engagement on a scale of 1-5 stars. You can use these scores in your Segments to target your most engaged subscribers with more precision—like sending a launch email to your 5-star subscribers first.
