How to manually add or remove subscribers from a Kit Email Sequence

Learn how to use a bulk action to manually add or remove selected subscribers from a Kit Email Sequence.

Do a one-off manual addition or removal of subscribers from an Email Sequence

Using an Automation Rule or Visual Automation, you can automate the addition and removal of subscribers from Email Sequences.

But what if you want to do a one-off manual addition or removal?

In this case, it might not make sense to:

  • Set up a temporary new Rule or Visual Automation (with a temporary Tag as the Rule's trigger or the Visual Automation's entry point, for example),

  • Manually add the temporary Tag to your subscribers to trigger the Rule or Visual Automation, and then

  • Delete the temporary Tag, and the temporary Rule or Visual Automation, when your subscribers have been added to or removed from your Email Sequence.

Instead, the more convenient method is to use a bulk action. Keep reading to learn how.

(As a bonus, we'll also share an alternative method for removing individual subscribers without using a bulk action!)

How to manually add subscribers to an Email Sequence

1. Select your subscribers

Go to the Subscribers page under the Grow tab in the navigation.

Then, select the subscribers whom you want to manually add to your Email Sequence.

For example, you can click the checkbox next to a specific subscriber to select just that subscriber:

NOTE: Use the search bar on the right to search for the specific subscriber(s) first, if needed.

You can also select all the subscribers who are in a certain Segment, have a certain Tag, or have purchased a certain product.

To do this, click the relevant Segment, Tag, or product in the right sidebar of the Subscribers page.

From there, click the checkbox to the left of the "Subscriber" heading to select all the subscribers on the page.

If the list of subscribers spans multiple pages, click the +Select all option instead.

2. Use a bulk action

After selecting your subscribers, click Bulk Actions, followed by Add to Email Sequence.

A window will pop up for you to select the Email Sequence(s) your subscribers should be added to.

Select the relevant Email Sequence(s), and then hit Save.

We'll add your subscribers to your chosen Email Sequence(s). Note that the following may occur as we do this:

  • If your Email Sequence is the trigger for any Automation Rules, these Rules will fire. To prevent this from happening, temporarily disable these Rules before adding subscribers to the Email Sequence.

  • If you add subscribers to an Email Sequence that can be restarted, any subscribers who had progressed through the Email Sequence, even partially, will receive the content again from the beginning (in other words, they will restart the Email Sequence).

How to manually remove subscribers from an Email Sequence

Bulk removal

To manually remove subscribers from an Email Sequence in bulk, complete the steps outlined above for selecting multiple subscribers at once.

After that, click Bulk Actions, followed by Remove from Email Sequence.

A window will pop up for you to select the Email Sequence(s) that your subscribers should be removed from.

Choose the relevant Email Sequence(s), and then click Save.

The removal of subscribers from Email Sequences can trigger Automation Rules. In addition, for the purposes of Visual Automations, being removed from an Email Sequence counts as completing an Email Sequence.

This means that if the subscribers were receiving Email Sequence emails as part of a Visual Automation, removing them from this Email Sequence will progress them to the next step of the Visual Automation.

If you don't want certain Automation Rules or Visual Automations to run when you remove subscribers from an Email Sequence, temporarily disable these first.

Individual removal

Instead of using a bulk action, you can remove subscribers from an Email Sequence individually.

From the Subscribers page, click the relevant subscriber to open their subscriber profile page. Then, click the Email Sequences tab.

Click the trash can icon next to the Email Sequence from which you want to remove the subscriber, followed by OK to confirm the removal. 🗑️

In the same way as mentioned previously, removing a subscriber from an Email Sequence will trigger relevant Automation Rules and Visual Automations. Be sure to temporarily disable any Rules or Visual Automations that shouldn't run when you remove an individual subscriber from an Email Sequence.

P.S.: If you're looking to remove subscribers from a sales email sequence after they've bought your product, we suggest automating this process using a Visual Automation instead of doing it manually.
