Managing your Newsletter site in Kit

Learn how to customize your newsletter site's posts, links, and more before you share it with the world.

A one-stop hub for your audience to find your content and products

That's what the newsletter site is. It's a mini website featuring your bio, posts, products, and other content. It also has a form for users to subscribe to your email list.

To see what a newsletter site looks like live, check out Kit's newsletter site.

Access the newsletter site builder by clicking Grow in the top navigation in Kit, followed by newsletter site.

Generally, you'll use the customization settings to the right to edit your newsletter site and preview your updated newsletter site on the left.

Now, let's look at how you can customize your newsletter site and share it when you're done.

NOTE: While we auto-save the changes you make to your newsletter site, you'll need to click the Publish button to apply them to your live newsletter site. Your changes may take a few minutes to go live.

Customizing your Newsletter site

Profile introduction and email form

Click any of these in your newsletter site introduction to change them:

  • Creator business name

  • Name or byline (optional)

  • Bio

  • Profile photo

  • Email form's button text

For example, to customize your bio, click it and type away. Click anywhere outside the bio, and we'll save your changes.

Design & template

Click Design & Template in the right sidebar to customize your newsletter site's:

  • Template

  • Colors (e.g., background color, accent color, and heading color)

  • Fonts (i.e., heading and body font and font weight)

You can browse and preview all available templates to find the one that best suits your style. To do this:

  1. Under the Template option, click Browse templates.

  2. A templates panel will appear, listing all available templates.

  3. Hover over any template to reveal the Preview and Use template buttons.

  4. Click Preview to see a live preview of how your newsletter site would look with that template applied.

  5. Once you've found the right fit, click Use template to apply the template to your newsletter site.

Navigation menu

The navigation menu helps users navigate your newsletter site's pages, plus any external pages you've linked to it. Its look differs based on:

  • Your newsletter site template

  • Whether users view your newsletter site from a desktop or mobile device

In particular, newsletter sites using some templates, like Hudson or Everett, have a swipeable navigation menu on mobile. Here's Hudson's, for example:

Meanwhile, newsletter sites using templates like Knox, Park, or Canyon have a hamburger navigation menu on mobile. Here's Knox's:

Click Navigation Menu in the right sidebar to customize the order of your newsletter site pages in the navigation menu.

Just drag and drop the pages in your preferred order.

You can also use the toggle next to each page to show (or hide) it from your newsletter site.

NOTE: If you hide a page from your newsletter site, users can still visit the page using its dedicated link. But they'll see a blank screen.

The navigation menu can have up to five external links to any non-newsletter site page. For example, you can add an external link to your online store:

Click the + Add External Link button to add an external link. You can customize the link's label, URL, and icon.

Click Save to save your changes.

Edit your external link by clicking the pencil icon, and delete it by clicking the trash icon.

NOTE: You can create custom newsletter site pages, which will also appear in the navigation menu.

Unlike external links, custom pages use the same design template as your newsletter site. Their URLs will use your newsletter site's domain. Learn how to create custom pages here.

Sign up form

The Sign Up Form settings let you customize the confirmation email your subscribers get after signing up via your newsletter site's forms.

These forms include the sign up form on the main newsletter site page, as well as the sign up form on every post featured on your newsletter site.

You'll be able to customize the confirmation email like all other confirmation emails on your Forms and Landing Pages. Edit your email's contents, choose its email template, and customize it to match your brand.

You can also choose whether to redirect subscribers who confirm their subscription to a specific URL or a file download.

Last but not least, you can auto-confirm new subscribers who join your list via your newsletter site.

If you check this box, new subscribers won't have to engage with a confirmation email to join your list. In line with best deliverability practices, we don't recommend selecting this option.

Newsletter posts

The Posts page displays your public Broadcasts—both free and paid. Paid posts have a padlock icon to indicate that only paid subscribers can read them.

Click newsletter posts in the right sidebar to customize these settings:

  • Show newsletter posts: Show (or hide) the Posts page on your newsletter site.

  • Featured post: Select whether your newsletter site should feature your newest public post or a specific public post of your choice.

    • You can make your posts public using the Public posts setting further down the sidebar.

  • Post visibility: Select whether anyone can read your (free) public posts or whether they'll need to be subscribed to your email list first. If you limit post access to your subscribers, everyone who clicks your posts will see a preview of them, and subscribers can log in to continue reading.

  • Public posts: Select the Broadcasts to display on your newsletter site.

  • Show categories: Show (or hide) categories that users can use to filter your newsletter site posts.

    • If you've enabled this setting, click Add category to access a dropdown menu for choosing categories to display on your newsletter site.

    • Type into the dropdown menu to create new categories. Each category needs a label for its name, and a URL slug (the last part of the category's URL, i.e., accountdomain.kit.com/profile/posts?category=your-url-slug-goes-here).

  • Paid newsletter: Select the paid newsletter product that users must be subscribed to before they can read your paid posts.

You can also click Write a post to start a new Broadcast. The new Broadcast will appear on your newsletter site after you've published it to the web.

Products

The Products page displays your products.

To show (or hide) the Products page on your newsletter site, click Products in the right sidebar, and then toggle the Show Products setting.

If you've enabled the Products page, you can also select the products to display on it. Click and drag the products to rearrange their order.

Recommendations

The Recommendations page displays the creators that you recommend your subscribers check out (and subscribe to as well).

NOTE: You need to have joined the Creator Network before you can recommend creators.

To show (or hide) the Recommendations page on your newsletter site, click Recommendations in the right sidebar, and then toggle the Show Recommendations setting.

If you want to change your recommended creators, click Edit Recommendations to go to your Creator Network settings.

Links

The Links page displays links to your different platforms, like your blog or social media accounts.

Click Links in the right sidebar to:

  • Show Links: Show (or hide) the Links page on your newsletter site.

  • Add links: Click + Add new link to add a new link to the Links page.

  • Edit links: Click the pencil icon next to a link to edit its URL, label, description, and icon.

  • Reorder your links: Click and drag the links to match your preferred order.

  • Delete links: Click the trash can icon next to a link to delete it.

  • Change your links' colors: Change your links' background color, text color, icon color, and so on.

  • Show or hide the link description or URL: Use the Show Description and Show URL toggles to show (or hide) your links' descriptions or URLs from the Links page. (Your links' labels and icons will still be visible.)

Custom pages

You can add up to three custom pages to your newsletter site. These pages take on the look of your newsletter site template, and their URLs will use your newsletter site's domain.

To add a custom page, click Custom Pages in the right sidebar > Add new page. Alternatively, click the page dropdown menu at the top left > + Add page.

Give your page a name, and then click Add.

Once you've added a custom page, click the pencil icon next to it to customize its:

  • Page Name

  • URL Slug: This is the last part of the URL that points to your custom page. For example, accountdomain.kit.com/profile/your-url-slug-goes-here. If you change your page's URL slug, the old URL slug will not automatically redirect to the new one. Users of the old URL slug will see a 404 error page.

  • SEO Settings

    • Title and Description: This text will appear on the search results and social shares for your custom page, but not on the page itself.

    • Social share image: We automatically generate a default image of your newsletter site that will appear when you share it on your socials. The default image will automatically update to match the changes you make to your newsletter site.

      • Click Change image to replace our default social share image with your own. We recommend that your image have a 16:9 aspect ratio. (An image dimension of 1,200 x 675 px works great.)

      • If you've replaced our default social share image with a custom one, you can reset your custom image by clicking Reset image.

To add content to your custom page, click its empty space in the newsletter site builder and type away.

The custom page editor has the same features as the email editor. You can add layouts, images, videos, buttons, and more.

To delete a custom page, click Custom Pages in the right sidebar. Then, click the trash can icon next to the page you want to delete.

If you delete a custom page, users using its dedicated link to access it will see a 404 error page.

NOTE: You can use the navigation menu settings to hide a custom page from your newsletter site without deleting it. But users who try to visit your hidden custom page using its dedicated link will see a blank screen (which is similar to seeing a 404 error page).

Domain name

Click Domain Name in the right sidebar to select the domain name you want to use for your newsletter site URL.

By default, your newsletter site URL will use the account domain we assign to you, like accountdomain.kit.com. But you can change it to use a custom domain like mycreatorbusiness.com.

NOTE: If you want to use a custom domain for your newsletter site URL, add the custom domain to your Kit account first.

SEO

The SEO settings in the right sidebar help you customize your newsletter site's appearance on search engine results pages and social media platforms.

You can customize your newsletter site's:

  • Title

  • Description

  • Social share image: We automatically generate a default image of your newsletter site that will appear when you share it on your socials. The default image will automatically update to match the changes you make to your newsletter site.

    • Click Change image to replace our default social share image with your own. We recommend that your image have a 16:9 aspect ratio. (An image dimension of 1,200 x 675 px works great.)

    • If you've replaced our default social share image with a custom one, you can reset your custom image by clicking Reset image.

NOTE: These SEO settings apply to all pages of your newsletter site. This is except for custom pages, which have separate SEO settings.

Publishing your changes

Click Publish to apply your changes to your live newsletter site.

Previewing and sharing your Newsletter site

Use the desktop and mobile icons to preview your newsletter site in desktop and mobile view respectively.

To preview a different page of your newsletter site, click that page on your newsletter site's navigation menu in the builder. Alternatively, use the page dropdown menu at the top left to select the page to preview.

You can also click Open to view the live version of your newsletter site.

NOTE: If your live newsletter site isn't showing the changes you've made to it, check that you've published them first. Your changes may take a few minutes to go live.

If you're happy with how your newsletter site looks, grab its link from your browser's address bar for sharing everywhere. 📣

You can copy the main link to your newsletter site (e.g., https://newsletter.kit.com) or the link for a specific newsletter site page (e.g., https://newsletter.kit.com/profile/links).

To get the link for a specific newsletter site page, click the page from your newsletter site's navigation menu. Then, copy the link that appears in your browser's address bar.

Viewing your Newsletter site reports

Click Reports to view a report on your newsletter site's performance over the last 90 days, including:

  • The number of visits to your newsletter site

  • The number of confirmed subscribers who signed up via your newsletter site

  • Your newsletter site's conversion rate, which is calculated using this formula: Number of subscribers / Number of visits x 100%

  • An attribution breakdown of the top referrers and UTM parameters that drove visits and signups to your newsletter site

You can also download a CSV file of all subscribers who signed up via your newsletter site to date.
